The life on the rock will do better if you can place it into a shallow container. Spread the rock out and use two power heads to prevent dead spots.

depending on how many pounds you have what i would do is put the live rock into a 29 gallon tank and put a light, header, and powerheads. you can buy a new 29 gallon tank for under $40.

i would grab one of those big rubbermaid containers and use a powerhead and heater.. you'll be good to go. if its just sitting in a bucket, not long.

I wish that were the case, been trying to get a 29 gallon and new they are all around 60 and the only guy with a used one that I can find is 70 miles away. Stores that normally offer discounts wont discount their aquariums since the mark up isnt high at all. Might be splitting hairs on your point but is just funny because of my current quest for a 29 gallon tank.

I am undergoing a similar situation, I have found someone locally who is offering a sweet deal on their LR but I have to pick it up ASAP. My tank is still being "built" so I was planning on storing this liverock in a similar manner. It would be a royal PITA to use my tank light on it, will standard housing flourescent lighting in the room be suitable for the light?

if your just storing the liverock for alittle while you dont really need light.. just a tub with a heater and a powerhead to keep some flow.
