How long do fish live?

After reading that pust on the octipus dieing from old age I realized that fish might only live for a coulpe of years Anyone know how long fish live, for instance a snowflake eel?

Hi:
many large bodied angelfish can live for 10-20yrs. There are a few reports of 20yr old damsels in public aquariums. I personally have an 8yr old vlamingi tang, and a few 3-5yr old lionfish. i suspect that most fish can go at least 5yrs.

i heard of a gold fish living for 40 years so i guess it all depends on the husbandry of the tank itself.

This is a freshwater fish, but my uncle had a red devil for 18 years before it died a couple weeks ago.

I read a note about the oldest living koi at over 200. They can tell by the rings on their scales.

depending on the fish, i do know of a 14(soon to be 15 yr old) hippo tang, and many other fish well over 5

Well... considering that Anenomes can live hundreds of years in the ocean... and only a few can live over 2 years in captivity... I wouldnt doubt if some can live over 30 years or so?
