How long does a ric take to split?

I picked up a ric today at lfs that appears to be in the middle of/at the end of the splitting process. What is the average amount of time one of these takes to split? Also, this frag was sitting in a cup with others and some rubble. It has grabbed onto a couple of pieces, but I would like to know if it's ok to keep it in my tank in a cup with sand/rubble until it completes the split so that it would be easier to locate separately in my tank (rather than having them both attached to the same large rock when they complete the split)
I hope that made sense--I'm so tired right now and need to go to bed, but I'd have stayed up half the night thinking about this if I didn't ask it!

I got some rics a few months back, all single mouths. Now, several of them have 3-4 mouths, seems like the don't want to split, they just keep adding more mouths....

depending how much is left to split, just take a razor and complete the split.
I just bought two that both have two mouths.

As you can imagine, the correct answer is, "as long as it takes"! But none of them split fast.
