How long does it typicly take GSP to open up?

That's good that you got a GSP, now that they are going to take over your tank and everything - in a couple years your going to be trying to get rid of it!
BTW, LFS Owners try to make money on the corals that they sell. If you feel that it was worth 70$, then you should pay that price. Haggling with the price of pets is rude, IMHO. (Unless it's marked unreasonably high for an average frag, of course.)

From your mouth to G-ds ears....we all want our coal to grow so much we have to try and get rid of it. That extra growth is what the LFS sell to those just starting. Those who offer it to the LFS get a break in chemicals or fish food as a trade, The cycle of life and all that.
If I want a coral that won't grow or move or do anything...I can always buy plastic.

It took my GSP about 3 days to fully open but it had a long ride home from Spokane, about 4 hrs. IMO urs will be fine

1. I'm hoping they take over my overflow bar. that is the spot I want them to cover. Ill trim and prune as needed.
2.Sorry, poor choice of words. I didn't really have to haggle. It was marked at $70, and he offered it for $50(but I would have asked a little bit...maybee $60). Talking him down was a bit of an over statement. I thanked him and I bought a $20 bottle of Purple up and walked out the door spending $70 anyways.
The way I see it, I don't need to haggle too hard, I can get it cheap online, or off craigs list if I was really needing to save a buck. I'm just supporting a local business.

The name of the game is always get your price set high and let the customer "talk" you down to your asking price, most sales reps know this trick all too well.

BTW congrats on your GSP, Mine also took several hours to start opening. But finally 24 hours later I got a Partial response, I still have a few polyps on it not open. I got mine for $5, he had a piece about 7 inches in dia. and I was able to get him to break a 2 in piece off the side, I am a budget kind of person, Like to see things grow from small to cover the whole tank. Even if it taks longer I still only have about $100 in out of pocket. Most of that was with the candy cane at $42. enjoy the bad photos.

they are about 20 inches from the MH, but i am wondering if the bulbs are due for a change, the guy I baught em from said they were only 6 months old, but Im thinkning hes full of it. The T5 72" puts out way more light than the 3x250's.
I am ordering some new ones in a couple weeks. RIght now I keep the T5's combined with the MH.

Even though they say that you can go up to 15 months with a T5 bulb, you should still replace it every six to eight months. I learned that the hard way... The spectrum changes sooo much over the second half of a year that algae starts to form, even in an immaculate tank... JME.

Take a look at my GSP. Bought them in January - about an inch in size. Now they are about a foot long. I cut them and paste them to new places in the tank. They look real good swaying back and forth.

Just bought some xenia's. Hope they grow just as fast.

Thanks.

Its a fast way to steer people away from answering my post because they assume the bump they see comes from this idle unrelated exchange.
Back on my original topic. I saw a couple polyps opening up yesterday. But they are baby polyps, the adult ones haven't opened up yet.
Could this mean the adults are dead are dead? its been a week.
The Jr. ones have grown very slightly since yesterday.

Sorry about that, my first time posting pictures.
I dont think you have to worry about it. Mine took awhile to open when I first got them too. Give it a couple of more days and see how it goes. Wouldnt worry too much.

That's how they start...they open just a peek to see if all is safe, then more and more they come out. I bet in a couple of days it will be all openand doing good...nothing is dead if the matt is still blue.
Just don't bother it, or the whole process starts anew. Don't worry about crabs crawling on it or anything like that...just leave it be.
