Not sure if i want to get one or not yet for my 90 gallon tank with 95 lbs. of live rock. Just wanted everyone that owned a mandarin to tell me how long they have had it for, how long tank has been set up for, tank size, # of lbs. of live rock and whether you have a fuge for it or not and what size fuge for it. Also i want opinions from you guys please whether i can get a mandarin or not with no fuge if tank is well established. Only have had it for 5 months was thinking about getting one when my tank hit a year.

I wouldn't get a mandrin with no fuge. I got a scooter blenny yrs ago and put it in my 75 gal with 90 lbs of LR and he lived for 8 months until he ate all the pods and starved to death. JMO

had my mandarin since march of this year ( not a claim to sucess yet but he seems to be getting fatter!)
My tank is a 44, probably like 60lbs live rock and a 3-4" sandbed, I have a 5gal fuge with tons of critters in it too
HOWEVER, my mandarin does accept prepared foods. Otherwise I wouldnt be able to have him.
He has gotten fatter since I got him in March (he was a little sunken when I first got him- pretty common for mandarins I hear) this is the best pics I have so far.

I have tried to search and get a more exact date (I posted the day I got my mandarinfish) but I can't seem to find anything.
I know my seahorses were still alive, so it was at least September or October of 2006.
The mandarin currently is doing great, she has been no problem. I have a 55 that has been running for four years. I think part of her success is that the tank, sadly?, is suffering from old tank syndrome, but I think that may fit the needs of the mandarin. 75 to 100 pounds of LR.
She actually comes out at feeding time, as though I might offer something she'd like, but I have never seen her eat anything prepared.

Mandarins are tough. I have one on my 90 reef. He does eat brine shrimp, so that helps. I also made a small cheap fuge out of an old plastic 2 1/2 gallon betta tank. Cost me all of $5 for the pvc connections. I put 3 inches of sand, 8lbs. og lr, and some macroalge. Mandarin doing great!
