How long should I leave my lights on?

I have a 65 gallon tank that has been running for over a week now with 55 lbs. of live rock and 70 lbs. live sand and I couple of little critters that came with it and with the GARF grunge. I am just wondering how many hours a day I should run my lights. I have a 48" pc with 50/50 10k and actinic lights? Also, if I ad a refugium is it a good idea to run alternate light cycles?

I think most folks run their lights anywhere from 10-12 hrs a day.....myself I feel its important to have a consistent day/night cycle so I use timers to maintain day/night.
Personally I prefer to keep my refugium in the light 24/7...but thats a personal choice. Mine is in a seperate room and does not affect my display by having lights always on. Besides ...I've heard that with caulapers(sic)its best to keep lights on 24/7 to prevent the macro algaes from going sexual. But lots of people use an alternating schedule on refugiums with success....so whatever works for you. One thing I'd like to add...in my opinion a well set-up refugium is an extremely beneficial addition.

Most books Ive read say to run the "NEW" tank 6-8 hrs when nothing is in it, so you dont promote BAD algee....
I ran mine about 8hrs, and then did the night lights for about 2 to start...everything cycled fine..
