how long to cycle a 10 gallon

Im trying to set up a QT tank bc my tang has ich
and I put pure ocean water in and a piece of live rock
and a week later ammonia is at 0
I am assuming that it has not cycled yet
or has it
its only 10 gallons
I just started topping the tank off with my main tank display water

Not sure, but I ithink that topping off your QT with DT water is defeating the purpose. You tang had ich, so you put him in from the DT to the QT tank, correct? Ich lives in the water column, so I believe you are adding ich to your QT.

If the tang is in your tank with ich, more than likely ich is now in your tank. It takes only 3-5 days for ich to detach and then go into its "swimming" cycle. This is the stage where it will look for more hosts.
I had ich a while back because of a tang, and it started showing on other fish. I used kick-ich and it worked awesome. Totally reef safe, and never had a problem again.
