How long to wait for skimmer?

I just got a used AquaC Remora from the auction site.

I've had it up and going for a few days now and don't yet see any good foam or slime in the top. I know I've read here and other places that it often takes a few days for a skimmer to "break in".
How long should I wait before I should be concerned that is isn't skimming? :notsure: I'm using the MaxiJet 1200. I didn't really clean it much before I fired it up. Should I try to clean it? I know folks have put vinegar through it to clean it, but it didn't look that bad.

i heard it takes about 2 weeks to break in a skimmer, so i'd say wait that long, and if it isn't working then, take it up with the seller. (unless they have a no-return policy, or a 10-day return policy, then you may want to do it sooner.) And the skimmer being dirty shouldn't have an affect on it's skimming ability.

Are you at least getting a good froth of bubbles in the skimmer, even if there is no "boil over" into your collection cup?

Good point! I don't know. I'll have to check that -- it's kinda hard to see back there with the dark acrylic.

You may need to adjust it, there should be some way to raise the level of the bubbles in the chamber, you want the bubbles just below the neck of the collection cup.
