If it's 48x13x18, it would be a 55 gallon tank. You need more live rocks then what you have. Do you have a protein skimmer??? If not, you better look into getting one. Thinking about purchasing a larger tank down the road? IF not, better not get the tangs. Especially since you already have a yellow tang, they're VERY territorial. You can't have any small fish cause your Humu Humu would have it for dinner.
I have a Humu Humu in one of my tank with a Yellow Tang. I have a Silver Tip Shark in there with them and a large Hermit Crab. The Hermit Crab don't take crap from the Humu Humu, he's bigger then the Humu Humu. The Trigger leaves the crab alone thank goodness. In my other tank I have a Naso Tang, 3 Heniochus Butterfly, 3 Hermit Crabs, and 2 Green Chromis. Surprisingly your Humu Humu hasn't ate the Damsel already, mine would chase small fish around and eat it.
He's like a pirahna. I don't have a puffer, but I think it can defend itself against the Humu Humu if I remember right?
Better do some research!!! Good Luck!

Thank you guys for all the comments. I do have a skimmer and the dansle is about the same size as the Humuhumu. Is 6 fish in a 55 gal tank too many?
Thanks again! :joy:

I believe that those are the dimensions for a 50g tank.
I have a 50 gallon tank, and I have a Bicolor Blenny, a Yellow Watchman Goby, and a Flame Angel. I thought my tank was getting a bit crowded.
IMO your tank is already overpopulated. I wouldn't house a tang or trigger in a 50g. You need lots more LR, about 50-75lbs. more.

That depends on the kind of fish. You must consider the ADULT size of the fish you are keeping, not their current size. I'm shocked that the tang police haven't come and blasted you for keeping a yellow tang in a 55 yet.
The generally accepted rule is 1" of fish per 5 gallons of water. In your tank you can go up to 11" of fish. Your current stock:
damsel (2") + yellow tang (8") + humuhumu (10") = 20" You've already almost doubled what you should have. The might seem ok now, but wait until they grow.
Also, I agree that you need a lot more live rock than you have now. I've got 90 pounds in my 55. A good rule is 1.5 times your tank's volume (55 x 1.5 = 82.5 pounds).

I think most people would agree that the biggest fish you want to house in a 55 is a dwarf angel (ie: flame, coral beauty, etc.) Maybe some others with more experiance can confirm or refute that claim

Triggers, Tangs, Large Angels all need much more room and most are very territorial. You will only end up with an expensive dead fish =(

first off you better get more live rock or your tank is going to suffer in the long run. Ive seen it happen to people on here and Ive seen it happen to people I know. Second I think your about done adding fish to your tank. I would say add some small ones (cause you can always have more small fish then big fish) but that huma would take care of that and eat them. Really the huma is going to get big as hell in the next few years and will wipe out the the tank. You might be able to do a Snow flake eel if you wanted to there always fun, just make sure your lid fits really tight other wise you might come home to a dryed up eel on your floor lol. Anyways good luck with the tank and I hope you get it were to some what you were looking for. Keep us posted and get some pics.

A couple of ways I've seen this summed up:
1)Imagine living in your bathroom your whole life. It might be a big enough room at first, but eventually, as you grow up, you will go crazy because the room's so small.
2)Sure you can keep a Great Dane (d0g) in your 1 bedroom apartment for a while, but he's gonna grow to be a big ol' boy. That apartment's not gonna be big enough after a year or so, so what're you gonna do? Sell the Great Dane back to a pet store? Sure, but isn't there some emotional attachment to the dog by then?
