You say you see these four makes in the shop a lot, are you a mechanic out of curiousity?
Edit: Sorry, I didn't check your profile before I asked the question.
I'm actually a Banker, but I do a lot of auto work on the side (growing up, this is what all of us around here did). I work weekends at a friend's auto shop. He's since cut out anything lower-end... It's all luxury vehicles now, Like Audi, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, etc. Don't get me wrong, the Hyundais, Kias, and whatnot all fit certain lifestyles. Awesome warrantys, but they spend a lot of that warranty actually being worked on. Weight it out when buying a car.
Do you want a car to drive that is in the shop for 2 months of the year, limiting how much you drive it, but doesn't cost you anything;
Or do you want a car that costs more to work on, but you only have to pay that once a year and lose a few days worth of drive time?
That's what it comes down to.
In the end, you get what you pay for, which is what makes Honda/Toyota such great buys. They have found the balance.
