Well for maroon clowns...
Sexless juvi clowns can be kept in groups but once mature will pair up and any territorial intruders run off. If in a tank where the intruder can not escape, death is a very high possibility.
The standard, safest, and least PITA option is to only add 2 clowns to one tank. It's not worth the risk unless you don't care if a few fish are stressed, or killed.
