OK, every pet store i go to says i cant have another clown in my tank. I have had my cinnamon clown in my tank for 6 months with just a damsel, and i was wondering if i can put another smaller one in? He just seems lonely with only the damsel and star fish to play with. Can you answer this question correctly for me please??
oh yea it is a 35 gallon tank

another cinamon might work but you have to keep an eye out and maybe even get one larger than the one you have now, beause the one already in your tank will be dominant and territorial, so basically its like 50/50, you're just hoping that they'll pair up.

The one you have now is already a Female. It will not except another Female. You must find a very small one to place with it and it MIGHT except it or kill it. A single clown left alone for a month will turn female. They can not turn back.

Why add a clown thats bigger? If his tomato is a female already and you add another female then you have a problem. Clownfish dont go back to being a male most of the time. So you try to get a smaller clown (male) so they would pair up, although you would see some aggresion at first.

so i am just better off not trying it. I hate to kill off fish to please myself. anyone have any good ideas for a peaceful fish to add to my tank. It has been established for 2 years now. Just very hesitant about adding fish. The two i have now along with two chocolate chip star fish and a super snail have been living together for 6 months now. Just dont wanna mess up what i have

What kind of Damsel is it ????
If you try it then this is what it looks like. Happy couple if it works. I added the Male well after my Female was esablished. There was not much aggression. Im not makeing any promises......it could end up bad.

I didn't....!!!
Just took a chance......Like you often have to do in the hobby. It was not even an inch big so I was hopeing, More than likely still male at that size. Plus the LFS just got it in the day I saw it so it didn't have time to think about changeing, IDK. but really not even sure if it was the same species......Little guy was lucky I guess because as I said, it could have been bad......

it's safe to assume that a very small clown is a male ... the only way that would be incorrect is if it already paired up with an even smaller clown earlier on. but that doesn't happen very often, especially with aquacultured.
because of that, i think you should try it. in my opinion, your chances are very high that they will pair up. the female will probably chase the small one all around the aquarium and they might not seem to like each other for a few days but it's highly likely that that will only be temporary. the small one should submit very quickly.
the smaller the better.
