How many Computers do you have?

1 laptop for work, 1 desktop for myself, 1 desktop for my son, and about 10 servers that aren't currently running; they're just sitting in closets or in the attic. I used to run a server farm out of my house, but with the saltwater hobby taking the time I used to take to admin the things, they had to go offline.

Depending on your deductible and value of the PC, your home owners insurance may cover part of it. If you lost any other appliances during the strike it may be worth filing a claim...
5 running on broadband

Hehe I don't count the computers that are in the attic or my server that is co-located at my hosting company.

Yeah, I'm not counting the co-located server, just what's in my house.

I am considering a new laptop for myself to do more consulting on the side, but with the way the economy is going I don't know if I want to sink any money into that right now.... dunno if it'll pay off.

If you are looking to get a new laptop, look at MacBook Pro's w/Parallels PC emulator. I have that running as my other work laptop and it's really smooth... well worth the money.

I was definitely considering it, but I'm a linux guy (program for linux, too), plus I do security consulting so a Dell with dual boot linux/windows (as much as I hate windows) is probably the better/more economical choice. I've priced out a laptop w/docking station and flat panel monitor for $1300 instead of the MBP w/same RAM/HDD/etc, minus the flat panel and docking station, for around $2400. I really would love the MBP, but like many who go the Dell/PC route, it's just a lot cheaper. Even just a plain MacBook came to around $1500 and still doesn't do docking.

Yea, my roommates MacBook Pro is pretty cool, I'd doubt I'll ever make the switch, but for his video stuff it's really good. The only downside was the cost. That thing was over $3k when he upgraded the ram and screen on the 17". That's a pretty serious XPS or AlienWare laptop...

Very true on the cost of MBP. I bought mine last summer and have it with 3Gb of RAM, large screen and no docking station! It was a little over $3K and it being a business deduction, I decided to get it. It is a work horse. Otherwise I'm a Dell person, my other work laptop is already a 3yr old Latitude D800 with 2Gb of RAM and it still works well.
