how many crabs?

How many hermit crabs should I put in a 30 gl. tank? and what kinds of crabs should I put in. I need them to eat some of my algae that is growing.

you probably only need 10 or so. I suggest scarlet hermit crabs as they do a good job and aren't as malicious as some of the others. You may also want to consider buying some "empty shells" (they sell them here) so they have some new homes as they get larger.

i say blue leged hermits and around 15-20 and definitly you should buy some empty shells cause if you have any turbo snails or any other snails they might kill them for their shells

A cheap place to find shells is your local hobby store. The sell all sizes of shells. That's where I got mine, and my crabs are always "trying on" new shells. HTH
