How many Feather Dusters?

Is it a problem to have too many feather dusters in a tank? I have 3 good sized dusters in my 29gal reef setup and I have never had any problems whatsoever. I was thinking of getting maybe two more of them just because I like the look and they are such low maintenance. Any concerns I should have?

No it shouldn't be a problem to have that many. I had four large dusters in my 26 gal. The only thing I know of that distrubs them are certain types of fish and starfish, particulary choc. chip stars.

Feather dusters are harmless to all other life, as they only filter particles out of the water. If you want proof, I can try to take a picture of my feather duster breeding bed in the back of my 100gal reef, where I have around 200 1" white dusters growing. Been thinking of taking a pic, anyways.

Common dusters will reproduce readily if they are kept in dense groups and given proper nutrition and not disturbed. I add Nutra-Sea Rock & Sponge Food, and it makes a noticeable difference in growth rates. This is a quick pic, it looks like this all the way across the back of my 100gal reef.

I have a question tho...one of my dusters are shooting out a whiteish substance...wondering if someone could shed some light. I have read about it before but I can't remember what or where...Thanks

my bi-color blennie has something against mine.. always does a swimby peck at it... a few times a day.. i dunno if he was molested by one when he was little but he doesnt like mine

The milky substance is likely the mucus they use to build new tubes, as sistrMary said. It is harmless to the rest of the tank. They secrete it around the tube and it softens the tube up, allowing them to stretch it, then it solidifies and the tube is larger than it started as,. allowing the worm to grow in both length and girth. HTH

Man I only opened this thread because I thought if I guessed how many there were in the jar then I would win.
My guess is around 200 1' white ones.
