So far, without pictures, we are looking at a full lion, large angel, and an eel of some sort in a 55 (I understand that they are all juveniles right now). You are way over stocked. The lion and the angel will get too large for that tank even if they were the only fish in there. If that is indeed a breed of ribbon eel, they are very difficult to keep eating in an aquarium. Even by experts. I am very sorry if this sounds harsh. I don't mean it to be. You also have damsels in there. You should realy get rid of the lion, eel, and angel. See if your LFS will take them back, then find a new LFS if they said they would all be fine in a 55.

Don't garden eels require deep sand beds and a species only tank of at least 150 gallons?

I have been looking in my books and still trying to figure out what a "Garden eel" is, A picture would help so incredibly much. Fish are often called by many different names.

sepulation..in regards to ur thoughts on garden eels i know them to be in fact very small eels...nothing compared to a moray..i checked out a few books form the local ibrary the other day and it has a picture of them...they get the name becuase they well..kind of school..they are found in large groups halway burried in the sand with their heads sticking out...the pic i saw was so densely populated that it almost looked like underwater grass made of eels..altho i am not taking sides with the owner of this post or anyone else..i am just trying to clear up the situation on the eel eating everything..tho they do need a DSB.....id take a guess of 6-8 inches of sand..the book i saw them in was about WILD fish and corals..not in the home aquarium..so it didnt show any type fo tank requirements.
