How many fish for 30 gal.

I have a tank ordered from my lfs that is coming in friday I wanted to know how many fish I should have. I already plan on having three green chromis( one being transferred from my dad's tank.) I also plan on not having any large fish. Any suggestions, Thanx.

The basic saltwater rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per 5 gallons of water. (Not including fins) It all depends on the size of your chromis...they can get about 4.5 inches long.

30 Gal - couple of clowns, some damsels and maybe one pigmy angel.
try alot of interts - star fish, crabs, feather dusters, mushroom polyps and keep the fish to a minimum. that way it's like a reef echo system vice a fish tank!
You could even think about some urchins - they are neat - fire urchins are inexpensive and they roam about the whole tank dya and night.
I have one and plan on buying another.

I'd go for a couple maroon clowns and maybe a sand sifting goby of some sort.

What about a percula (plenty of character; a pair maybe?), or a royal gramma (lots of color)? Ok, maybe I'm a little biased, but I enjoy these fish in my tank.

A pair of percs would probably be better since maroons can get pretty big.

Well, my dad already has a pair of percs, and I don't know where I would buy urchins from because they don't carry them. I also heard that more than one maroon clown could be an agressive choice, or maybe that was a differt kind of clown.
Anyway I don't want to have more percs because If I ever want to have the excitement of seeing one I can always see my father's

You could go with different types of dart fishes. Theres firefish, Scizortail gobies, and bar gobies. Or you can try wrasses. I like the yellow coris. I would recomend buying a pistol shrimp and sometype of shrimp gobie, they should form a bond and share food and a burrow. Jaw fish are also fun to have. You might want to take the chromis out so you have more room for other fish. Sebae clowns are good since maroon get big and agressive and you dont want any percs.

Just be careful with Firefish, because they will sometimes fight to the death if you have more than one in a tank, and they are also known jumpers.
