5-6 is wayyy too many fish for a 24 in my opinon. I have the 24 and hapilly keep three fish (2 clowns and a bicolor blenny). I think the absolute max you can have would be four. Maybe post which types of fish you were considering and we can help you narrow it down.

I have 5 in my 25g tank.
Maroon Clown
yellow damsel
yellow belly
another damsel (don't know which kind lol)
Lawnmower Blenny
I also have 2 cleaner shrimps.
My friend has about 7 fish on a 20g and the tank has been up for almost 2 years.
1 inch per 2 gallons works for me

it works, but isn't recommended, I plan on overstocking my 29 a little bit (6 or 7). I think it depends alot on the fish, like my watchman goby, he gaurds his burrow all day, its like not having a fish almost, (still awesome fish, dont get me wrong) but unless the fish gets sick or attacks other fish, its fine imo

I have 4, coral beauty angel, maroon clown, yellowtail damsel, bicolor blenny. But you must make sure your water changes are kept up exact, no room for error. Also I run 2 Aqua Clear Filters with carbon 24/7.
It may not be recommended but it can be done if you make sure to keep your water pristine all the time...
