How many is too many in a 55g? I counted about 11 misc. including a good sized electric blue. Can I get more.? I would like to get more scarlets..I never really had an algae problem but do have alot of snail/fish crap. Will they clean this up?How many do you have in your tanks?

im personally a believer that as long as the hermits have food and there is enough dissolved oxygen in the water, you can never have to many.

i personaly hate hermits and prefer snails, but in a 55 id get 20 scarlet cuz they are less ferocious and less likely to kill eachother for the shells (but keep a plentyfull supply of empty shells on the bottom of the tank)

I got some empties and have noticed some shell swapping.Ive got 3 scarlets in there now and want more. The rest are mixed.I bought them as bluelegs but not all have blue legs.It does make it easier to identify them though.

I keep only scarlets..they are much more peaceful.I took my bluelegs back to the LFS.Rogue hermits{neither blue nor scarlet}can be a lot of trouble ie;eat things you don't want them to.

technically you can have as many as you want, however if you have to many they will canabilize each other, id start with 1-20 wait for a couple weeks and see how they do, if they dont take care of excess alage addda few more...

personally, i hate blue legs... they are cannibals... so i would stay away from them!! Scarlets are MUCH more docile

I bought 6 more today. They havent left the sand which is great.Thats why I bought them.I have a mysterious, all of a sudden diatom problem. My other hermits barely touch the sand. If I pick them up and place them on the sand they run back up on the rocks.
