how many inch from water should my 400w mh be?

i have a 400w mh in the center of my canapy around 14 inch from top of water on my 180g (6x2x2).. is that about right? and how long should i leave the mh on for?.. i also have 4-6 foot actinic vho icecaps just to let you know

I'd lower it to 6-8". Just make sure you do it an inch a day so that you don't burn all your critters.

YEA BUT ARENT YOUR MH 250W?...IT CAME THAT WAY IN MY CANAPY. IM ASUM'N THAT ITS 14 INCH ABOVE THE WATER CAUSE ITS 400W MH

I have two 150 watt hqi pendants, but my tank is only a 55 gallon. I leave them on for 8 hours a day and they are set with timers. Make sure that you have splash guards on your mh's (I'm almost positive you do since you have a canopy).
