How many "k"?

You could go with the 10k halide and the 50/50 power compact. By the way, how deep is the tank, how many watts is the halide, and what are you trying to keep coral wise?

I believe the tank is 21" deep. The metal halide is 442 watts. Right now all I want a zooas and frogspawn, but I am sure I will want much more later, so I thought it would be cheapest to go ahead and buy a metal halide...plus it will be best for the coral...Oh, and something else I want, a rbta...which I want to use a metal halide with. :jumping:
Oh, and thirdchaos, I was just wondering, Do you have any fish in your tank? I like the sandless bottom. (isn't it?)

I have an ocellaris clownfish and a purple pseudochromis as of now. And yes, the tank is bare bottom. It allows me to have higher flow and keep the tank a lot cleaner. The waste collects in the corner where i can easily siphon it out. The pics are from when i first removed the sand bed. As of now, I have no algae except purple coralline.
That light sounds good for what you are trying to accomplish. Be sure to start you corals toward the bottom of the tank and slowly move them up over the course of a week or two. Otherwise, the can be burnt by the bright light. Good luck with which ever light combo you choose. If you dont like the color the power compacts add, you can always change them out for something bluer or whiter.
One final question, what brand is the fixture?

Hmm....good question! lol I'll have to email the owner...all they say is,
"This is a Brand New 36 inch metal halide power compact combo WITH German made Metal Halide bulb INCLUDED, and Power compact bulbs"
I'm thinking about going with a 15k mh and the 10k pc...would this make a whiter color?

It would be whiter, but would severely compromise your light output. You really want the halide to be 10k considering its wattage compared to your tank height. And honestly you wont regret getting the actinic power compacts. It wont be as blue as my pic ( i used bad camera settings). As I originally suggested, 10k + power compact actinics should be perfect. (I'll get a better picture to prove it
)

Actually, I cant get another picture until the camera is recharged. Do a yahoo image search for 10k with actinics and you can see a variety of different tanks. Remember that everything will look different at home.
