There is about eight with in 30 minutes to an hour from house, in central Jersey near Newark.
Three that i frequent.
One that has nice selection, alot of clean tanks, but the owners an ass. Has no useful info. only has young people working for him, i have no clue who knows what.
The second has a killer inventory, but the fish never seem healthy. The owner however is a bowlful of useful info. However getting to talk to him is like standing inline at Disney World.
And ***** if you get there win a fresh shipment comes in your golden.
Then theres one far away that all of the coolest things that i ever seen and that what got me started.
If anybody is in this area and need adress conact me.
Good Luck to all

There are 7 stores near me. 2 of the stores don't sell saltwater (one is Petsmart) and the other one specializes in cichlids. If you're looking for cichlids, Living Color is the store to go to. As for the rest, I would buy freshwater from them but saltwater is limited to 2 stores. PetMart (no S) has excellent fish, and so does Aquatic Wonders. There is another one on Main St. that also offers healthy saltwater, but their prices are a bit much. The rest of them, the saltwater section is dismal. Only the most ignorant buyer would get a fish from them. The fish are very obviously sick :( .
Of course there are some people that don't have a clue about fish. Like the story about the employee of a major chain selling a customer a dead fish! The woman couldn't even tell the animal was dead! (you would think that it floating around would be a "dead" giveaway!)

I used to live 30 min from *************. About 8 yrs ago they used to have very nice fish. They never seemed to be sick or anything and always looked good. I was at home for christmas and went to buy some dry goods because they are cheap. I took a look at the fish and coral and they really didn't look good. It is a huge store though. back 7 or 8 years ago they used to have 50% off all freshwater fish and 25% off all saltwater fish every weekend, and the prices were good to begin with. They stopped doing it though. The funny thing was that you would see license plates from all over the country at that place!!!!
And you don't really get better stores the farther south you go. I haven't found a great one here yet!

I have 3 good pet stores about 10 minutes away. All three have fresh and salt water and the fish seem healthy.

and i have thought alot about it this last year, unfortunately there is not much of a market for it around here, and i have other big loves in my life that i am persuing, but i have researched it and do not think it would be even good enough to survive(very depressed and small, heck, growing up i went to high schools with student bodies much larger), and unfortunately this area is very against any change, any new business is lucky to stay a year, we can't even keep a good department store long(like kmart or ames or even sears)
and the 3 within driving distance were either here for years(and harder to compete with due to loyalty and belief he is a godsend since he has been here ofr years his word is gospel to the locals) or are owned by retirees or somthing, and even they are not doing so good

BTW I said better selection, further south. By no means do I mean better stores. Although I have seen some killer stores in Florida. :D

sorry to miss quote you... I wish it was true about my area. I mean some of the selection can be better here sometimes but i think being in pensacola and not orlando, tampa or miami has something to do with the fact that i don't see great selection here!

there are 3 w/in a 25 min. drive for me. occasionally i will make the big road trip to l.a. to score some hardware and livestock. ;)

I have about four near me(one is a ***** ) I have one down the road that has a pretty good selection of HEALTHY fish, but as for equipment they don't have much. One is about 20 mins. away they have six salt tanks and no equipment or supplies. The good pet store is a 45 min drive, they are very expensive thou.

I frequent a store that does about 75% fresh and 25% saltwater. Everyone working there is friendly, and knows what they're doing. Theres also a couple warehouse type pet stores that are good for equipment ect... but their fish don't look so great. I don't have that many choices in Wisconsin.

i have olny one store that carries saltwater fish but they olny have 1 saltwaterfish tank which is 30 gallons but a can order fish from a pet store that dose notcarry saltwaterfish but i know the owner so i can get any fish for th price the store gets it

I only have 2 LFS near me and on eof them is Pet-Co. Even though there are alot of negative remarks about Pet-Co, they have been great in regards to certain equipment and misc. stuff (food, salt, meds). They never used to carry decent equipment but after some of us "consumers" kept begging them, they finally started carrying better selections. The other LFS near me is a pretty good store but man he is REALLY expensive....example: He charges $11.99/pound for Fiji LR...and it is not even premium quality. Anyone ever wanting to open a SW store.....open it close to me please :)
