How many of you have had a fish jump?

In the 8 months that I've had SW tanks I have had two fish, a purple pseudochromis and a percula clown jump. How common is this? Since I only have PC lighting, should I put glass tops on my tanks?

I have had a diamond goby jump into my overflow box and land on the pad in my wet/dry.
I have always used glass tops on my tanks. That is just my preference. It makes me feel a litte safer.

Will the tops affect my lighting? Will it make it dimmer?
I'm feeling really guilty about the clown, he just jumped three days ago and now I'm afraid his friend is lonely. I'm afraid if I get another one they will fight.

tops won't necessarily make it dimmer but they will collect salt deposits and must be cleaned regularly. you will find that most people go topless. I don't think your clowns will fight if you get a new one

That is pretty funny. My daughter's hamster escapes all the time and out cat loves to play with it! Luckily the hamster hasn't been hurt..yet...I will have one very upset 10 year old!

I have had several jump. The worst was a blue ribbon eel that I had just gotten to start eating. This was before I really knew how hard they were to keep.

I had a six-line jump while the glass tops were off briefly. I found him dried up about 10 feet from the tank. I think the cat had somethoing to do with his final location. lol.
This sounds bad, but I wasn't really upset. Although I really liked him, he was a mean little bugger.
Anyway, I did have glass tops for awhile but didn't really like them. You definately have to keep up with cleaning them. Right now I only have a yellow clown goby so I'm running topless, but I plan to get eggcrate before I put anything else into the tank to be on the safe side.

Eggcrate is the plastic grid that is used over flourescent lighting fixtures that are built into a drop ceiling. It normally comes in a 2' x 4' piece, but it can be cut to any size as needed.
I know it comes in white and silver. The silver is a little more expensive, but I plan to get it because I think it blends in a little better. The white sometimes tends to discolor and looks dirty.
I know there are pictures on here, so if you do a search you should see some to give you a better idea what it looks like.

I don't think any fish have jumped...but there have been a few who have been missing...
I do have glass on top. Topless would be good if it meant I didn't have to clean saltcreep, but my kitty would be in the tank in no time.

My fav fish a snapper (rather not say what kind) jumped about a month ago. The space that he/she jumped from was no larger than his body, anyway I was very angry - myself. Thats my story.
