How come you don't do water changes on that tank? Just curious, I do not know a thing about aggressive tanks.

Never done water changes to my fish only and my reef tanks just reg r/o top offs only lost 3 fish in 5 years due to stress issues with other fish. not saying it works for everyone but has worked so far for me.

in my agressive/fish only tank there isnt anything that is nitrate intolerant so i dont bother as much on that. to replace the nutrients lost through skimming and filtration i dose the water with kent marine essiental elements every 2 weeks. yet if the nitrate is over 180 + that maybe too much, so i may do a rare 15 gallon w/c on the 55. i like to keep it around 80 and below but it never gets any higher in my tank. plus i havent lost a fish since early september, but its death was fish harrasment.
yet on my reef i have hundreds of dollars of stock and i feel that i must do water changes in there more to keep the water at top quality. id never let the nitrates in this tank go past 40.

I do reg 10% water changes in all my sw tanks every week..only about once every 3 months in FW, just top off, but I do clean my filters every week on all tanks. I also dredge the water on all tanks scoop out debis, floating crap, etc. everyday!

I've never used a calendar to decide when to change my water. I test nitrate every week. When it hits 10, I change 25%. I retest the next day and change whatever it takes to get it to 0.
