i have 125 and have 2 900 maxi-jet ph one in each back corner of the tank. one i have pointed upwards and the other pointer down town my cc. i am still having trouble with red slime, started my tank with regular water since,e been making changes with ro /di water. i've been trying weekly changes of about 50-10%. but i'm still fighting it. do i need more ph and where should i put them adn point in what direction. i run two emporer 400 filters and i have a seaclone 150 skimmer which has been working well, i have to empty it about 3 times a day i'm just trying to combat this red slime and be sure i have enough flow. thanks

How long has your tank been set-up?
Where is the red slime growing? Near the ph's, or somewhere where there is little flow?

migth not be flow, check your water paraments, this can also cause it, but you mgith want to add 2-4 more maxijets, you want a general rule of thumb, of about, 10X the ammount of water volume you ahve to go around in current.
so for a 125g tank you want all your powerheads to add up to 1250 gallons per hour.
on my 55g i have 40X turn over.
so check your water pars, CC will also add to thew alage, CC traps foods and waste turning it to ammonia/trates/trites, this will fuel the fire. also get better filtration.
how many fish do you ahve, what kinds, how big are they, and how old is your tank.
how old are the filters in your Ro/DI unit?

my tank is about 2 months old, i have two fish in it a maroon clown and a clarkii clown, 2 cleaner shrimp and a peppermint shrimp, and about 40 naursauis snails. my parameters are
ammonia 0
nitrites 0 nitrates 0
ph is 8.4
salinity 1.022
my ro/di unit is only about 3 weeks old, i've probably ran about 30 t0 40 gallons out of it. i have a tds meter on order i should get this week plus some red scarlet crabs. what other type of filtration should i use. also where should i position the other ph. thanks

I am using 4 ph's in my 55 2 ones for the front and 2 smallones for the back of the tank. With my filter and skimmer I have 25X turnover 20 to 30 is recommended 40x is kinda high but you wouldnt have any dead spots in your tank.

Does this seem too frequent to anyone else, or is it just me? I only have to clean out my collection cup about once/day, but I don't use SeaClone.

Yes, 3 times a day is way high for a SxClone 150. I had one on my 55 and even a once a day cup fill-up ment way too much stuff in that tank. Red slime is a sign of high nutrient level, do you have a dieoff or are you feeding too much (most of the times too much food in the tank and not enough buggers to get rid of it.) By the way, I now have an ASM skimmer

i might be feeding too much i feed caily either frozen schrimp brine or flake throuble is my tow clowns eat all the food before it gets to my shrimp so i have a habit of trying to get them some by putting too much in but seems to be all gone before you know it.

On my 75 tank I have an Emperor 400 and a 280 with the SeaClone 100. I haven't noticed any slime like you're describing. I empty my collection cup maybe once a WEEK.
I'm no expert, but I might try putting a couple more powerheads in there to circulate the water a little better. Marine Depot has some pretty good prices on their stuff.

You don't need to worry about the shrimp getting any food, they are very good scavengers.

For treatment of the red slime there is this medication that is normally used to treat fish with fin and tail rot. The brand my fish store carries is called Mardel and the medicine is called Maracyn. Because the red slime is actually a bacteria not an algea, normal algea treatments arent very effective. They come in tablet form, just drop in a couple, probably 3 or 4 for a 125 gal, and you will see the red crap dissappear really fast.

Only use meds as a last resort!!!! If your tank is still cycling dont worrie about it if it isnt then get some hermit crabs they eat red slime.

I agree, meds are a last resort. But if you have the kind of coverage I had, and it sounds like you do, no animal or animals can keep up with the growth. And the crabs don't really eat it, they just keep it broken up by dragging their shells across it. So if you do decide to use the meds, you should take out as much of the slime as you can by hand, then use your med. Once the meds eliminate the slime, the crabs can be added to keep it from coming back.

If you look you can find things that it "red slime algea" I would get some and once there done take them back or sell or trade or keep if you like them.
