How many skimmers for a big tank

What do you consider a "big tank"? You can buy commercial skimmers that will accomodate larger tanks.

Rate of Fractionization rises Expotentially to the available DOCs...
So One Large skimmer is more effecient than two in the same tank... (large or small)...

Bigger is better here's why.
"In foam fractionization (protein skimming) the effective Removal of Particulate matter and some Dissolved Organic Compounds (DOCs) is dependant on the ammount of time the water is in contact with the air bubbles. Basically the time in which the water and air are held together in contact with one another while in a frothy mixture. Contact time is critical as it allows the bubbles more time to pick up and remove suspended particulate matter and waste products. Contact time can be measured in two ways. One is the length of contact, this is a measure of how long the water and air are kept together while passing in the chamber, (often deterimined by the height of the skimmer). The other way is by volume of contact (often deterimined by the diameter). By injecting twice the number of fine bubbles and doubling the capacity and length of time for the bubbles to do their job you clean the water more effectively and efficiently".
Two protein skimmers would clean your water but not as well as one large one would. Another reason why bigger is better...

Makes sense now, thanks Phixer
