How many snails and hermit crabs?

Curious to how many hermit crabs and snails I should have in a 46 gallon tank?

I have a lot of rock! And about a 1 1/2 inch live sand bed.

Start with about 10 of each and work your way up from there as you need them. Get a mix of snails. Not just one type as they have different mouths and eat different algae.

Any particular type that might be considered better than others? I read maybe not turbos yet since I don't have a lot of algae?

Astrea, nassarius, cerith, nerite and small turbos.

What about shaving brush? Would this be something worth having for nitrates?

I think you'd need a 3in sand bed for shaving brush.
