my tank is a45? 36L X 12W X 24 tall it was given to me and i have had freshwater fish for 2 years and decided i wanted to change. I am using this as a starter and hopefully will move to a bigger one within a year or two. I would just like some soft corals and mushrooms and an anemone. W would like to keep the cost as low as possible because i am going to move on to a bigger tank. I am using this tank as my learning curve and to get my feet wet. So I will not be embarking on exspwnsive corals. Just a few to learn about upkeep.

dont do a anemone hard to keep but for soft corals and mushrooms you only really need 2-96 watt PC's to do soft and mushrooms

It really does depend on species, but according to my past research the standard is about 3-5 watts per gallon. I found it on about.com.

watts per gallon tells you nothing. its all about depth, it takes a strong light to reach the bottom of taller tanks. it mainly depends on what you will have in your tank.
