Hey, I have a 55. gal. tank with one yellow tang in there I would like at least three or four.I went to different stores and I hear different opinions of how many should be put together.I need to know the truth and not speculations. Please help.
In large systems, they tend to do better in odd numbers(3,5,etc..) Since 1 is an odd number, stick with one in your tank. Even a single YT will be cramped eventually. Adding others will result in one of them being killed.
You probably shouldn't have any if you don't plan on upgrade up to the 100's they get very big 8-10in. Also some people think that yellow tangs are easy but they are the easiest in the tang family. I have lost 2 yellow tangs in my tank 1st due to temperature fluctation at the begining and the second I accidently bought with head and lateral line erosion. So if I where you start out with some clowns, a dwarf angel, a school; of chromis-don't know the exact number, and a wrasse.

Ok if it is small but will outgrow your tank in a couple of years.

Very bad idea 1 yellow in a 55 is pushing the limit.

The truth is the only Tang suited to a 55 gallon is possibly a Kole Tang, no more than 1.
Thanks for the insight I guess I'm going to have to get me a bigger tank.Cause I just love yellow tangs Too bad they don't do that well together.
