So yourself a huge favor and go live sand all the way. Do not go crushed coral unless you plan on vacuming alot. I did this mistake in my tank and very thankful now that I have the sand.

I would not do crushed coral but if you choose to and want about a 3 inch bed you will need about 200 lbs the ls will populate the crushed coral but would sink to the bottom

dont honestley know the answer to that , but im sure someone will pipe in with it for you, but i think you'd be better off with just live sand, i have a mix sand/coral/shell and i wish i had not got it. now when i upgrade to larger tank i will be going with just live sand. the crushed coral apparently can hold food and other stuff that may cause you problems.

I would rather go with LS. It's better that way, at least you don't have to vaccum. But you can purchase southdawn sand from Homedepot, it's a lot cheaper that way. Do a research in this site and see, there's a few places that sells the aragonite based sand. Then you just seed it with live rock and it'll eventually become live like mine. Mine was regular sand, now it's LS. :happyfish

Southdawn is aragonite based sand! I did not use aragonite based sand, but it's already seeded from my live rocks...
