Well Chevron Tang and I live together and I just figure out a rough estimate over all on our 75.I just got a custom sump and skimmer built today by a lfs owner(great guy-great store). It alone was 1500 dollars. In all it comes out to right around $5800.Then the predator has about another 100 or so.

I don't know about any of you but I would really like to see FishGod's tank, or of course a picture of his tank. I'm guessing that you either have your tank on your poured concrete foundation, or you have some serious reinforcement in your floor.
If only I was made of money.
BTW. my first attempt was a 20gallon that cost at least $3000, I decided that feeding the childeren was a higher priority.
I'm now in it for the second time, armed with a lot more information and a serious limit on the Credit Card. ;)

Holy Shmoley you people are nuts! :) Actuall i guess im getting by pretty cheap.
$200.00 = 55 Gal Tank and Stand
$135.00 = 25 lbs Live Rock
$160.00 = Miscellaneous junk
$80.00 = Power Head and first three fish
All that is for what I have right now. That will probably do me i guess, ill have to of course add more fish and then keep buying test kits and junk but the basic stuff is done.

Ok.. Im gonna make you all sick.. lol
For those who remember... I got my 50 gallon setup complete with $400 in fish/coral for Father's day. The total cost on the sucker was
$400 tank and stand
$150 in powerheads
$350 in liverock
$300 in my miracle mud sump
Thats about it I think other than the miscellaneous things. But there is well over $1500 in livestock in it.
Now for the unbelievable (I still dont know how I got so lucky)
Towards my last days here before I went on break from the site... I talked about a friend who due to a law suit had more money than he knew what to do with. (I believe Hermet commented on it about making good investments.)
Well me and this guy have been friends forever and I got him into saltwater fish and he immediately bought a 350 gallon for himself. But because he didnt want to (as he put it) "Forget about his mentor" I came home and (can you imagine the shock on my face)
There was a 100Gallon aquarium. WIth a custom hood that makes it look like furniure instead of a tank. Looks kinda like an armoire. It had a note in it that was a 'gift certificate' to go pick up livesand, liverock galore, and a few decorations.
He wouldnt tell me for the longest time, but finally I found out. The tank was $4300 total. This included:
150 lbs liverock
80lbs Livesand
4 x 96 pc embedded into top hood of stand
Custom stand
2 250 (i think) Metal Hallide (I dont know much about metal hallide but apparently these are the really cool blue ones. The more expensive, but better looking and better spectrum ones.. I could get the type if I asked the owner again.)
2 actinic No3 vhos
2 Power Heads
1 Sump that can actually handle up to a 210 gallon tank
3 Timers for the lights
1 Surge protector
$150 credit for coral
Heater
Thermometer
and a custom visit by the pet shop owner to come and (I forget the term) drill small holes in the base of the stand between the tank and aquarium and fill it with Industrial strength foam. Apparently my tank is pretty unbreakable at the bottom due to it. -shrug-
On top of that, since then, I have spent easily $2000 on it already simply because I have some rarer things in it.
I don't know what I did to deserve it, and I couldnt believe it for a week. I just kept thinking I was dreaming or something, but noper it was real.
Thanks Col VIp!!!!

Nice friend to have on your side.
I guess what goes around sometimes comes around - and you must have helped your friend a lot by turning him on to such a wonderful hobby.
That is way too cool !

In 1996 we spent over $3000.00 on the tank and inital set up. Of course since then we have added more ls, more lr, and added and lost tons of livestock.
