That sounds like a pretty good price. I am paying $708 every 6 months for my 2001 Explorer Sport. I do have collision on it though. Not sure if you do at that price...

Insurance is based on age, ---, history, location, and vehicle. The first two have a larger impact on males more so if under 25 and not married. For students - good grades can help with a discount as well.
Also, some are now using Credit Reports in the calculations.

I am a 26yr old male. I pay $1997 a year for my 2001 mitsubishi Eclipse in massachusetts. Full coverage. I have had 2 citations for inspection stickers. Minor accident on a motorcycle. Minor accident in a car.

And possibly most of all...credit. Almost all companies rate very heavily using a CBUS score (credit based underwriting score) Depending on what state you live in, it can GREATLY affect the price of your insurance.

i live in nj, and i think it is one of the highest as far as rates go. i pay 1900 a year for full coverage on a 03 toyota tacoma. which i dont think is that bad in this state considering im under 25, not married and the company i switched from was charging me 3k!

I am 24 and I pay $530 or so every six months on my 99 grand am... but michigan with their darn no fault insurance... no matter whos fault it is my insurance is the one that gets the hit ...(luckely my record is clean no accidents/no tickets) The one accident I had was from a flood and concidered an act of god and that dosent effect insureance.

Another factor in determining rates is your occupation. The insurance companies dont like to publicize this fact, but its true. I have a few friends that work for Geico that have confirmed this for me.

Don't forget the laws of the state in which you reside. I'm an agent in Virginia (recently licensed so be gentle). The laws here aren't too bad. New York laws are so funky that every company has to have a SEPERATE company for NY. Erie of NY, Statefarm of NY, etc. I saw those figures for you New Yorkers and felt so sorry.
I'm paying $50 a month for 2 cars, but am also 32 and married.

I just recently got out of the insurance biz, but was licensed in most states. I guess it's all relative, but I don't think NY is all that funky. I would say MI, NJ, and NC are the funkiest by a landslide lol. As far as price...I once quoted a guy $4500 for his family...for six months...and he said, 'wow, you're saving me $1,000 a year'. My jaw dropped. I live in the southern tier of NY which is pretty rural/small town. My wife and I pay apx $180/6 mos/veh.

SCHNEIDTS - I'm only licensed in VA right now, but will have to get one in NC,WV, and TN. The good thing is I can get a recprical for NC so I won't have to take the test.
Had a quote today where the person "forgot" to tell me that their license is suspended (even after I asked) and only remembered when the MVR came back. So far the Insurance biz is OK. I really don't have much of a choice though since it's the family biz and I finally let them talk me into it. I guess if I don't like it I can always fall back on my dream of being a beach-bum.

:hilarious

I can't tell you how many times that happened. I could share some funny stories about that. Giving an 18 yr old in NC a qt for 250 every 6 months, then when I run the MVR it goes up to 3500. I ask him about the hit and run, DWI, and the suspended license and he says, 'Oh yeah, I forgot about that stuff'. While laughing I say, 'so...do you want to get that started today?'. He hung up...
