Well it's always best to test first, and establish a baseline on all your parameters.
Test for calcium.
Test for alkalinity.
Test pH.
Write all your results down.
Then you know where you are at.
Get your numbers where you want them by adding alk buffers and calcium supplements.
Some folks just rely on the kalk - others like myself will adjust these levels first - then use kalk either for all top offs or occasionally.
Sort of depends on the demand for calcium in your tank, and how your individual system is set up.
Then you may add kalkwasser to the tank as make up ( top off ) water.
As the water evaporates from the tank - add the mixed kalkwasser liquid to your tank - SLOWLY.
Dripping it 1 drop per second is generally considered a safe rate.
Doing so slow like this will help to prevent pH overshooting too high.
Kalk has a pH of around 12, so you should not just pour it in.
That's about it - top off your tank with kalkwasser and keep a log of how the tank chemistry responds to dosing.
