Actually rule is 1-2Lbs. per gallon.
Like some other "rules" in this hobby however, this is a general guideline... It will depend a lot on what you are stocking in the tank, type of substrate, and the type of rock you use. The more porous the rock the less you need.

I don't want it to be bare and I don't want it to have no swimming space, I am not doing real corals with my aggressive tank. I will through so nice looking fake stuff here and there for some color....
What type do you suggest?
Can I get some from the gulf?
What kind of light do I need for algae to grow?

You don't need to buy it all at one time. Get what you can now, and add to it as you go.

Will it hurt to buy all at once?
I have never but any... can you mix different kinds?
Will different colored rock mixed together look bad?
Any one have any pics of mixed rock
I was thinking about some reg, some branch and some shelf to make caves.... Sound okay?

I agree with 1journeyman....the denser the rock such as florida, fiji, the more you would need compared to Solomon, or Tonga, and alot is what is full and looks good to you....

Nope, won't hurt to buy it all at once (Well it will hurt the wallet...)
I recommend (for what my recommendations are worth ) mixing types. That, imho, gives you the greastest biodiversity in your tank.
The colors will change in time as your algaes change.
Your ideas sound great.
QT your liverock... see my post on "He's back" for potentially harmful critters that can come in on uncured liverock.
That's also something I recommend; cycle your tank with uncured live rock. Fresh rock is the way to go for added life. Calfo and Fenner's Reef Invertebrates
has a great section on doing this.

Well this is why LR is usually your biggest investment (aside from lighting for some). You can also try looking out on the trading forums for people wanting to get rid of some rock, as you may be able to get a good deal on some really nice pieces(I've gotten a bit of mine this way, very satisfied with it).

Be careful with that. Taking it off the beaches MAY be fine, but there are laws about what you can and cannot take out of the ocean in most places.
