I don't think that anyone here would agree that they've really wasted money, it's all a learning experience, and if you learn how to keep 15 fish alive because of how that one or two died, it's valuable experience. You also learn by what equipment you use, too. If one thing doesn't work but another does, then that's valuable knowledge. Every tank is different, so what works for one person won't for another. That's how we usually end up with "spare parts", hehe.

I'm out about 75 as well. I bought too fine of substrate which I cannot use/or take back. I lost a porcelain crab as well.
Not too many greenback casualties yet!

It is 100% true that all losses were gains in experience. We have all lost fish when we were new and gained much knowledge from our mistakes.

I would guestimate from the time I started reefkeeping and counting tank crashes, DIY unusables, poor products, dead fish, corals, givaways and everything else, about a gajillion dollars, give or take a few. My head hurts and my heart beats rapidly when I think about it so forget this thread, I'm outa here. It's almost Christmas time and all I want to think about is a large bonus coming my way.
