How much Sand do I need?

I havr a 45 gallon tank, and right now I have to crushed shell base, I want to switch to the sand... How much sand do I need to put in the tank? thanks...

An equation to find out how much sand you need.
lenght(in inches) x width(in inches) x desired depth(in inches) x .0579 = lbs sand

ok great is 2" think enough? or should I go with more????

It's pretty much up to you on the depth of your sand. 2-3 inches is what a lot of people do. I've even heard of people using 4-5 inches. Two inches should be just fine. =)

I would do some research on sandbed depth instead of arbitrarily choosing how deep you want it. I would recommend either 1 - 1.5 inches or 4-5 inch (a DSB - you can search this site for info on this) as certain depths require different types of microorganisms to truley thrive and be beneficial.
