How much should one pay for a pair of MP40's Used?

Hey there,
I am looking at a pair of MP40's used off of a local forum. I need to find out if they are the wireless model. But, what is a reasonable amount to expect to pay for USED power heads. I believe they retail for $450.00 each. Please correct me if I am wrong. This guy is asking $400.00 each and I think that is way too high.
Any input on this is appreciated!!

The big question is how old are they and what's the manufacturer date of them......Also the condition of them......Sorry to say if they are fairly new and in good shape he's not high at all......These PH's will hold their value a lot better than any other PH in the hobby right now....Brand new your looking at $465.00 a piece.....
Also you won't find prices varying to much brand new, since EcoTech basically locks the suppliers into selling them at a set price.....

Thanks Shawn for the reply!!
I need to find the model and manufacture date. I offered like $250.00 each and he was a bit insulted. LOL He came back at $350.00... So at least we are moving. He has some other stuff. Like a reef controller that I might get as well if he comes down on price for the MP40's.

$250, I would have told you bluntly to pull your head out of your A$$......
That is an insulting offer.......If their the wireless new version, the guy is clueless, and I personally wouldn't go any lower than $350, but me of course I would have told you $400 take it or leave it......

I'm also not sure on the warranty as well on those.......Either way if you do buy them there is a good DIY thread over on RC that entails pulling the Vortechs apart and replacing the bearings, that seems to be the major complaint with these PH's......Apparently "junky" bearings, and a upgrading bearing swap (which isn't expensive) fixes noises rather easily and cheap.......

LOL....I just paid 250 for a used MP40....BUT NOT the ecosmart.....still IMO worth every penny....it was very clean and barely used from what I was told.....and by looking at it.....I believe it
I would grab a fairly new MP40WES at $350

Thanks Meowzer for the info.
I am think I got him to the $350.00 but I am waiting to hear if they are the MP40WES and the manufacture date. I hope I did not scare him off with the offer I made. I told him I would pick up a bunch of coral he is selling as well. I hate the waiting game!!
I just know that the EcoTech are going to do a lot better then the 4 evo 1400's I have now with the smart wave controller.

$250.00 not a bad price, but the ecosmart upgrade will cost you another $100.00 which puts you back into the ball park figure, and like I had mentioned the manufacturer date will be the deciding factor on that $400.00 price tag.....Even at $350.00 each not a bad investment.

For sure!!!!! Heck the Tunze 6101's I have in my tank would even be a major upgrade as far as flow compared to the (4) evo's.......Honestly you can't even put the Evo's in the same category as the Vortech's........

Meowzer and I just went halves on someone selling 2 non eco smart models for $500. Even though they're not the eco smarts, They weren't used for more than 6 months. The guy had them sitting in storage waiting to set up his tank. When he finally did set up his tank, he had it up and running for 6 months and then needed to tear it down and leave the hobby. I jumped all over the price of them because they're new. Manufacturing date doesn't always matter if you know who it's coming from, but as a general rule it's a good thing to go by. On my local forums you barely see even the non ecosmart model going for less than $375. These drivers are in high demand, and like Shaun mentioned, they hold their value and EcoTech holds the price so there really is no bargain shopping from one retailer to the other. I've seen used EcoSmarts, non wireless go for $400, they're not even up for sale for 5 minutes and people are jumping on them.

Thanks BTLD!!
I think I can get them for $350.00 and he is going to throw in a bunch of frags. We will see though. I am heading there after work. It is about an hour north of me, but for this deal I will make the drive. Wish me luck!!!

For $350, I'd jump all over them, especially with free coral. Who says no to free coral?!? LOL
Yup. Got them both and four huge sps frags. I have seen ones this size sell for 50-75 bucks each. Also got a cool green plate. And some soft corals for the wifes new nuvo.
I am so Dang excited!!!

Pics of the SPS frags. I don't know for sure what they are and the pic is terrible. The lens on my phone is scratched to all get out, so super cloudy. But here you go.
Also, I think my lights are too blue... My bulbs need to be replaced soon, I swapped the 14K bulbs out when I bought the fixture and switched to 20K. I think I will just swap back to the 14K bulbs... After all they are all ready paid for. I need LED's, but after this purchase I think I need to cool my jets a bit. I will have to get he the good camera out this weekend to take some pics.
I am also need to do more research to see what mode I want the MP40's in. Any suggestions?? Right now I have it in reef crest mode dialed back a bit from full blast. I don't think they guy I got them from used them to the full potential.

I wish I could see your pics better.
I run my 2 MP10s in Reef Crest (Yellow) mode most often, but will run NTM for a day or 2 every so often. I even turn one or the other to Full (green) for a while occasionally just to keep them guessing.
Some folks think I'm crazy to run 2 MP10s at full (whatever mode) in a 47g, but I think a little MORE flow would be just fine.
