Ok firstly.. lets face it.. if you want a GOOD deal on fish tank >equipment< you gotta buy online. Fish stores jack the prices of goods they get in so high that its almost impossible to stay in the hobby if you had to buy stuff from them all the time!
If any of you still purchase equipment from your local fish stores.. you really REALLY should consider going online and shopping around.. the prices are nearly cut in half.. and if you do ground shipping you really dont spend much extra money... and even with the shipping cost you're still saving loads of cash..

As a example click on the 'dry goods' icon on the left side of your screen and just compare a few of those prices to what you would find in your lfs... you'll be shocked.
Anyways down to the point.... I JUST spent $310 buying equipment for my fish tank on a internet site... at the moment im feeling pretty crappy about it and I wanna hear other peoples stories about how much they've spent on a order so I dont feel so bad

I have managed to find one fish store, not really local, and the guy there really knows his stuff so I frequent the place to ask a ton of questions and also to converse with somebody who knows the hobby. Since he has been so helpful and knowledgable, I buy from him. The prices may be a little higher but he needs to stay in business. Not really lights but salt mix, test kits, corals...stuff like that I will purchase from him.
I got really lucky in finding him, but I will continue to "support" that fish store as long as I can.
But even better than on line prices for a lot of stuff is this sights classifieds!! I bought my 6 stage RO unit with TDS meter for 75 bucks!!
Dual 175 halides with vho's in complete hood for only 300 bucks!!
Finding a good deal is awesome, but supporting and informative and caring fish store also has it's rewards. h*
