How much surface agitation?

One of the things I think my 24 gallon aquapod is lacking is surface agitation. All I have is a rotator pump that comes out of the predrilled hole in the upper left hand corner and I have an airstone in the back right hand corner.
What are the rest of you using?

I would ditch the airstone. Sometimes they can be problematic in reef systems and really dont benifit your system at all. In reality they could actually lower your pH. I use a power head to create flow in the tank and a loc line splitter on my return line to the tank, one is aimed for flow the other agitates the surface of the water slightly.

Yes, I would like to keep corals...
Do you think if i remove my airstone that the rotator pump will be enough to keep the air oxgenated?

i would say to get a korallia #1 or 2 and you will have plenty of flow for a reef...but if you dont have a powerhead or 2 you will have problems keeping your water oxygenated...also i agree with perfectdark on removing the airstone...
BTW...i noticed that you are from elk grove/sacramento area...so am I!...when you get some corals we should trade!

Would love to do some trades once I get up and going! Where is your favorite LFS? I do all my shopping at Your Reef in Rocklin....It is my absolute favorite! Are you a MARS member?
Okay, so I am going to ditch the airstone tonight....But I am wondering why it is not good to have them running. I thought it would help keep the water oxygenated...
I am actually ordering the Koralia online as we speek! I was going to get the Nano size one for my 24 gallon tank (as recommended by the website)....DO you guys think I should get the Koralia 1 instead?
Thanks to all for the input...

my favorite LFS is The Coral Reef Shop in carmichael. it is at madison and dewey. Your Reef is the very next on my list.
the reason that you want to remove the airstone is because it can cause problems with fishes gills...
do you know what the GPH flow rating is on the nano korallia is? i did not know that korallia made a nano powerhead so i am not framilliar with them...sorry

i would say as much agitation as you can get without water splashing over the sides. thats how i run my tank.

for me...i just use korallia power heads...there wide flow pattern works well and definatly moves the water on the surface...

SO do pumps that are fully submerged and placed lower in the tank basically do nothing because they are not providing surface agitation? Or is it good to have pumps causing surface agitation and pumps that are placed lower in the water column to keep the water circulating?
I did some research and found that the Nano Koralia does 240 gallons per hour. Should I get one of these and point it at so that it agitates the surface?

i would go with the korallia # 1...they have good GPH but the flow pattern is very wide...so it doesnt feel as powerful...

You dont think that the Koralia 1 would be too much flow? I believe it has 400 gph while the nano is only 240....
I have no clue which to get! Or where I would place it when it comes!

sorry for the delayed response...i only check this site at work...
i would still go with the korallia #1...i know that the #1 has 400GPH of flow but it is a wide flow pattern...most powerheads have concentrated flow to one spot...therefore making it feel stronger then a korallia...however since the korallia has such a wide folw pattern it is a very good choice for a powerhead...
