Not sure about cubes...but I know for a fact that my "29" gallon tank is actually closer 27 gallons before rock and sand. If you're buying the water, go for 35-40 gallons, you need extra to top off with anyway.

After adding the rock and substate, I don't think I have more than about 22 gallons in my 29 cube.

With your displacement it will be close but you should be ok for the initial set up

If I remember correctly, after bringing home 30 gallons and getting my bc29 filled with just the substrate in the tank, I had 6 or possibly even 7 gallons left over. I let the filtration run for a day or two, while correction salinity, before adding live rock. Dont forget that the 7 (or so) pounds of salt you'll need to add will take up some volume also, so you might just make it with 24 gallons.

Not so sure about that one. Salt water is denser then fresh so it is heavier but does not take up more space

I don't know about the cube, but every tank I have has only held about 2/3 of its 'listed' volume once the rock and sand are put in.
If we're betting, I'll take 22 gallons, assuming 1/lb gallon of LR.

Correct, VERY Slight increase in space, because it is a desolved substance, not a substance that has mass. Salt will not increace volume. LR and sand will.
