how often 2 do a water change on this ?

iv got a 3 foot coral only tank with mushrooms, button polyps and star polyps, iv got about 5 fist size peices of rock in there and one small hermit crab, im gettin a skimmer hopefully on monday and was wondering how often i should do a water change on it?

I do 10% water changes every week or at least every other week.

I do 5% water changes every week. Even if your water is crystal clear, it is still valuable for reintroducing trace elements into the tank.
It is my opinion that the larger the water change, the more stressful it is on the livestock and bacteria, so I stick to 5%.

Yeah, I agree With Mud ^^^. I have a 125 and a 55, both with sumps and fuges so the 125 is more like a 170 and the 55 is like a 75. I change 15 gallons on the 125 and 8 on the 55 every Sunday afternoon right after NASCAR or watching my Chargers. Go Chargers and Dale jr.

Why is it essential to do a water change?
