Start up - daily
Once setup - about once every two weeks, unless something looks off then I obviously test right then

I test nitrate weekly and SG daily. I don't realy have to test ammonia and nitrite anymore, but if something looks off then I do. In a newer tank you should test all four often.

- cant remember the last time.
unless something looks 'fishy' (aquarium joke
) I test it and take it to the lfs to let them test it.
Ive come to the realization that Less is more and the less I mess with the tank or put stuff/chemicals in it, the better it maintains itself

i'll test for nitrates if i see my clove polyps closing.
i've honestly been insanely slacking on testing calcium and alk and doing the "don't dose what you don't test". with the baby coming even my water changes are getting more and more spread out...i don't know what i'm going to do once she's here...

I test salinity every time I top off which is about every other day...My pet peeve is Nitrate although I dont want to obsess over 0 I am constantly trying to get below 15ppm and no matter what I do it never works. Even when my tank was fallow for 8 weeks I never achieved anything lower than 10... So with Nitrates I test twice a week. All the others maybe twice a month....

I don't test as often as I used to, and should probably do more, with the exception of salinity, my refractometer sits on the kitchen counter since I use it so much. Once I figured out that my salt replaces enough calcium when I do water changes I stopped testing it as often, now that's usually about once a month or so. Same with nitrate, once it got to 0, and I realized that my water changes keeps it in check, I stopped testing so often. The other usual suspects have been in check, with the occasional fluctuation. When cycling a new tank, though, I test that daily for the full spectrum.
