How often to feed

My LFS told me to feed my fish twice a day. Is this right? I thought I remember seeing that people recommended feeding them once a day or every other day?

I feed once a day, had problems with algae when I fed twice a day.

It would depend on the type of fish. There are some that need to be fed 2-3 a week and there are some that need to be fed 2-3 times a day. What kind of fish do you have?
