How to break in miracle mud?

My question is, how can I break in miracle mud with an existing system? I already have a sump in place, but according to the packaging on the mud, it say that in existing systems to break it in so I dont stress the animals, but my question is how? Any thoughts?

i had to let it cycle before putting it inline with my system. it SERIOUSLY got cloudy for a week. i'd not suggest putting this stuff into an existing system, but for a new set up it worked (works) well.

I had/ am having the same problem. The water will settle and then once I get the water flow going again it instantly becomes cloudy again. How can I get the mud to permenantly settle??- At this point I am either going to pour sand over the mud or simply remove it and do sand.

it settled down, but i also put a HUGE sponge filter before my intake to the pump to try to get some of the dust off. serioulsy should have gone with sand :( i dont know if its ok to put sand on top.

I've been curious about the mud myself, I cant reaally see what the mud has to offer that we arent already keeping up to par with water changes and calcium drip or reactor, you certainly dont need it keep your sump full of greens. I wonder what Bang Guys opinion is

My goal with it was... I have a canister filter, that flows into my fuge that flows into my sump/skimmer. I wanted to easily replenish my elements without having to constantly manually add things to my tank.

i put mud in my tank that was already done cycling, and i was told to do a bottom layer of mud, then put my sand on.. but in between i placed my mangroves so they could root through the mud and sand in my sump, the mangroves are getting really big and have huge roots!

don't know if that's the use of it. its supposed to replace sand in a refuge iirc.
replacing minerals and such comes from water changes.

I have also read reports about making the water cloudy in the beginnig, but after some time people have claimed that it went away.

I did the exact same thing....hob fuge with miracle mud, and feather caulerpa. Added this after a year. Once it got going, maybe only 2 weeks, no problems. I put live rubble rock in it also. It has been the best thing that I have added to the tank. My perameters are very stable now. Very little dosing if at all. I actually haven't had to add anything in about 6 months, other than the weekly water changes.

Do a google search on this mud and you will find this is a topic that has been discussed everywhere. There is a couple of really interesting threads out there as well.

btw. don't drop your power head into the miracle mud. BIG storm cloud that ended up in my DT all over my sand. if you've not already gotten it stay away, stay far away.

thanks, yeah ive set it up already and I have enough flow to have to not use a ph. Surprisingly, my water was only cloudy for a couple of hours as the mud settled and the water is crystal clear. I am not using a skimmer(want to see how this works w/o one for now) and I am using a coralife uv. So far the polyp extension on my sps pieces look a lot better than when I had a "regular" sump before.
