How to build an active fish tank?

I have a 55 gal. tank with just salt water, live sand, and 20 to 30 lbs of live rock to cycle a new tank.
I have read that you should always plan out your stocking plan before you spend a dime. I want to make an active aquarium with out making it too aggressive. What is a good start for a begginer? <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" /> <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" /> <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

Clown fish are active fish and are pretty hardy. they arent aggressive like damsels and have great personalities. chromis are also a possibility since they arent aggressive and constantly swim along the top of the tank. :)

some wrasses are good as long as you ae not doing a reef. bangaii cardnals. if you have enough lr either a scooter blenny or a mandarin goby, but not both, not enough space. for the most active fish i ever had that award would go to a dragon wrasse. beautiful fish when they are young, when they get older opinions start to vary. they like to dig up stuff and will eat anything offered. i never had a problem with mine except that he liked to toss snails.

My clowns definitely have more personality than any other sw fish I've had experience with. They are very curious and constantly swiming around the tank. They even seem to know who I am, because everytime I get close to the tank they flip out and come to the top expecting food, they don't seem to stop being hungry.
The fire fish I have is the most boring thing I've seen though, maybe other people have had better experiences with them. He's healthy and looks really nice, but that's all he does. All day he hovers in the exact center of the tank and just looks pretty. At night he sleeps in a cave about 5 inches from where he stays in the day. I have not seen him move any more than that. Not exactly what I call active, but a nice looking fish.
