I had to catch a psuedo. Not having a fish trap, I put a 1qt Mason jar in the tank and put some food in it. As soon as the fish made his way to the back of the jar, I clapped my hand over the top. Takes a little time, and ya gotta be quick, but I got him.

Two big nets and as previously mentioned turn light on while dark and catch fish before they get used to the light. Don T.

I put a strawberry crab with a body about the size of a quarter in my 90gal and with in three weeks he both yellow tail damsels the crab would go near their sleeping place--and they would attack the crab with their yellow tail--by backing into the crab---well the crab had a very nice fish dinner, but i don't remember if it was a friday night---lol

I have a devil yellowtail in my 46 which I've been trying to get out for about a month... If and when you catch it, please post HOW!!!

I have been trying to get two out of my tank for months.....the soda bottle trick did not work for me but you guys can try it. I suggest a blow gun lol. If you can catch one with a net you would be my hero cause I tried doing it with food and turning on the lights real quick. But they are still in my tank taunting me. If you guys don't have coral all over might have to pull the live rock out to get to them. I've also heard of people having success with the fish traps you can buy online but you have to spend alot of time waiting.

I borrowed a trap from a fellow reefer. I caught 3 damsels and a bad pygmy angel plus everyone else who got nozy and got into it too. It is called "the Trap". It is awsome.

Well, I'm about to try the "lobster method" in my tank now. I have an arrow shaft that I'm going to try to use to get him into a corner and go in for the kill with the net. After this fails I'm going to build my own fish trap. Wish me luck!

The lobster method didn't work...of course... I'm not taking out all my LR because I don't want to injure any of my corals. I'll probably try the bottle trap and if that fails, I'm going to build the plexiglass corner trap.

Are you a member of any clubs? Maybe one of your fellow members has a trap. Also try your LFS. You can give them the fish for borrowing a trap.

A very commom topic, here's my standard reply. It does work.
This may have been me, I always suggest this; but most people think its
silly...until they try it. Tiny hook (hair hook, used to catch bait. Flatten the
barb and bait with a bit of raw shrimp..after the little monster has been eating
it for a day or two. A lfs called me several times, when I I lived in another
state, to help them get unwanted fish out of customer's tanks (almost always
damsels). I never failed, nor hurt a fish (much). I think this one of the most
common questions on this forum. I suspect it is often the result of lfs selling
damsels as "cycle starters".. I'll bet I've posted this reply 20 times; I'm
going to copy & save it...I type very slowly. BTW, I never heard from anyone
that tried this and failed, but have heard several success stories. IMO, it is
no big deal on the fish, far less stressful ,(on the damsel AND tankmates),than
tearing a tank apart.

i had to take all the live rock out of my tank, and all the other fish out. until it was only the damsel and the sand. after he had to place to hide it was easy to catch him.

Just last Saturday my DH and I spent two hours trying to catch our Purple Psuedochromis (angry angry fish) and finally, at our wits end and yelling at each other with frustration we removed all the rock (even with the corals on it) and caught the little bugger. Rocks went back it immediately and corals are fine. If the trap doesn't work, removing the rock might be your only option. Although with a big tank I don't know how well it would work... we've only got a 34g.
