how to deal with lfs addiction!

man ever had those days were u have nothing to do and suddenly have the urge jus to go to the lfs? i had one of those days, just yesterday i went shopping for corals and spent around 300$. now today i swore to my self i wouldnt go but my friend who went with me yesterday said these lights i saw were 75 but i sed 25! we got into an argument and the lfs was gonna close in 15 mins. so i drove over there and said to my self im just gonna buy some food n check the price. well at the end i went home with a box full of corals and and a empty wallet.
ps. that was my 5th time in a row to the lfs. wen i came tonight jus b4 they were closing i asked if they were closing they responded "No, we were waiting for you!"
man i love that place.
Well what do u do to prevent this to happen?! is it even possible to stop it!

Not to be a bummer, but you need to stop it. What is the number one key to success in this hobby? Patients. I know it is tough. You bought a box full of corals which isn't realy a bioload on your tank, but they too need time to adjust. I know how you feel. I am on the verge of re-doing my system and turning it into a reef. I am excited and can't wait!!!! I also know that for the health of all of my inhabitants that I must do things in an orderly fashion and not rush. Patients is key my friend. :happyfish

man...its so much easier than done...maybe i might apply a job at my nearest aquarium the "Aquarium of the Pacific" to help stop my trips to the lfs but still be around fish and even get paid for it!

im in socal, and yea i kno patience is they key but its too hard to follow! man my lfs should give me a limit per week by giving me a card which they stamp so they kno whether or not to let me in or not. hey, thats not a bad idea! :thinking:

seriously! I try going to bed, but I just can't fall asleep... I'm not even tired. I think I'm an insomniac! everyones in bed except for you and me haha

yep same here, ever since my accident my day-night schedule is all mixed up. I am going to try and just pull the all nighter and go visit some friends in Sac tomorrow afternoon and it should tire me out. Plus its an excuse to go to O street. Going nutty around the house, only so much tinkering on the frag tank I can do. I feel like the guy in close encounters that becomes obsessed and builds the mountain out of mashed potatoes in his livingroom.

Leave your wallet at home and make sure your LFS don't do IOU's either......... It is hard as hell. I just went looking at one of the LFS and 2 min ago I places a $130 order on here. I am at reef level now. I totaled how much I have bought off of her and the total is like $1678

i know ur pain man, when i had a reef i would go to my lfs and look at corals, occasionally a little bit of dribble would come down. just keep in mind, eventually the spending will bite u in the butt. like i remember i once bought some xenia, leather coral, and a whole lot of hermits. that very night my demon cat knocked the lights into the tank and i was broke. i had to get my dad to buy new lights. so what did i learn? cats+open top tank=lots of burned $$$

lol man i kno someone else who is very addicted to this hobby. he's a real good friend of mine and were almost like brothers. well one day we went to this lfs we dont really like but they have an overstock on corals. theres corals on all the tanks and in the corners. well my friend did the most dumbest thing ever imagined and if ever imitated is considered highly stupid like this guy im talking about. ok heres the story. i brought my brother , over to distract the workers with his life story which they were all interested in as we planned. the store was slow so all the employees were talking to my older brother as me and my friend ventured into the back tanks. Ok lemme stop rel quick, i kno we have some people with sticky hands in this forum who occasionaly "steal" things from there lfs like u kno the small things like medicine, maybe some food, or thermometers but not my friend!" so here i am being the lookout*i feel real guilty but oh well* as my frined grabs a stool and starts ransacking this tank for u wouldnt believe it, but corals!!
. omg he started stuffing the rics, the shrooms, omg the torches for god sake! i could not have felt anymore stupid. well the corals wouldnt survive in his pocket like that so he made me buy something for cheap so he can have a bag with water. ok lemme stop there and ask...WHO THE HELL STEALS CORAL LIKE THAT!?!? :hilarious i kno its wrong but it s been done but i feel ever so guilty. this addiction is driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!! :jumping: :cheer:

. when we got to my place, he gave me my share of undeservnig corals and my mom noticed something new. she saw the new additions and asked who got them. i sed my friend. she asked how much. i sed i dont kno mom, but i think he got a 5 finger disconunt. she replied what 5$? thats pretty good. *man shes so clueless....
ok now, anybody wanna come by my house and slap me in tha face???

ummm... not a funny story... I feel sorry for the owner. I think you should be a good person and return what your friend gave you.

Stealing (from your LFS or anywhere else) is definitely not acceptable bahavior...
I rate this right up there with the smugglers who kill hundreds of parrots trying to bring a few into the country illegally...
You stole, and you probably killed a lot of creatures.
