How to feed your eel?

Hey guys, I got a SFE about 2 days ago and havn't really figured how to feed it. I did do my research about it. A lot of sites and people said to stick a piece of fish, clam, squid and put it on a stick (not really a stick). Well I did that and when I put it by the eel, he just went right back into his hole/burrow.
So my question is, how do you feed your eels? Got any tips or experience points, you can tell me
thanks

i thought it was a trick question, lol. well in my case my local grocery store sells fish called whelks, which my eel loves. but if the eel had eaten the day you got him, he will not be hungry for a couple of days, so try in a few days to feed him, he will eat. jmo

Try some gulf shrimp. Snowflakes are crusteacen(sp?) eaters and like to eat crabs/shrimp. I stick feed my eel. Try some garlic on the food.

When I had my eel I bought a feeding stick from the LFS. If he wasnt hungry he wouldnt pay any food any attention. When he was hungry he would go after it. Sometimes he would go 4 or 5 days without eating. No problems at all.

I also use a feeding stick for my SFE. So far I have gotten him to eat silversides, clams, shrimp and Krill using it - he comes up and just grabs it off of the stick. My SFE is about 10 inches long right now and seems to be hungry enough to eat every other day, not the 4-5 days like other people notice. And each day he eats about 4 silversides and at least 5 krill. and whatever else I seem to have. I have noticed eats alot better when the food is soaked in Garlic

hes most likely just adjusting to the new surroundings right now but to know what you should be feeding him how big is he?i used to stick feed mine also now he comes out and grabs up food like the rest of my fish.but I always soak the food in a cup of water to thaw add 2 drops of garlic extreme (this normally gets their attention) i feed mine krill ,silverslides, small chunks of raw shrimp ,squid.if hes not eating for you you can also add 1 drop garlic extreme per ea 10 gal tank water, this will also help boost imune system and entice feeding .

i have four monster eels..a tessa. a green.. a zebra.. and a brazilian dragon i feed them all by hand..... i vary there diet trying never to feed them live food.... unless you want then to be so aggressive you can not house them with any other fish...snowfalkes are trickier though unless yours has an appetite already....i would try sliced tiger shrimp from the local grocer.....is that does not pink gulf......if you rather feed him live........various inverts would be suitable :cheer:

I feed my zebra using a stick. That is mostly just to get it past the puffer so the eel can actually eat. Like someone said up above, SFE's eat more crustaceans like shrimp. My eel has fasted for up to a month before. I can't see an eel staying alive for 9 months with no food though.

So waterpolo, being that your thread is topic as How to feed your eel, when will you tell me how I do this? For I like to gain from your expertise

I saw a pic of him feeding all but the green by hand. So he at least feeds a tess by hand. Just how many fingers do you have left Doc?

Years ago when I use to go diving I feed the large eels and by hand too but in a home aquarium were you are outside of its tank, it can become quite risky for in the will in my dives one would need to approach these animals carefully and slowly and you need to manage to be able to read its body signs for it has was of letting you know that your in for trouble.
In my dives through the years I came across more often the green moray and a good number of times the Tess as well very few times the Giant moray and I had pet them all after a fresh fish feeding.

What do you mean my expertise?
And for the one that asked the question, my sfe is 6-7 inches long. He goes crazy at night so I am assuming he is nocturnal. He lives right now in a tank that's about 7 weeks old with a 4 inch Niger and with crabs and snails. He loves to make his little holes. I think he will eat tonight. He gets interested any time I go to feed my Trigger. I guess the smell of formula one excites him.
And how does an eel go without food for 9 months. :notsure:
