I have a domino damsel in my 75gal tank that I have had since day one of my tank..which is a little over a yr. He has grown very rapidly and now thinks he is the king of the tank...I need to get him out of there because he picks on all my other fish..especially if I introduce a new fish...has already killed a pajama cardinal and a clown...any and all help would be appreciated :help:

Is there a lot of rock in the tank? Any fish can be removed within half an hour if you want to get quick and dirty about it.
Drain about a third of the water into clean buckets. Remove the rock from half the tank into the buckets, essentially opening up half of the tank. Drop a clear plastic container or tupperware bowl into the tank in one of the open corners. Use a net to herd the fish into the container. It may take a few tries but the fish will instinctively seek cover and eventually go into the container rather than return to the other side of the tank where the net is. Works every time. You can mess around with traps and trying to net the fish while the tank is intact, but you're going to become really frustrated, IMO. If it's a reef and you have corals to remove/move, it's more of a hassle but worth it if you want the fish out bad enough.

Yes, mine is a reef tank so removing the rock really would be a pain..since there is about 170lbs of it in there spread all over..I need a harpoon...

Wind I had the same problem. It was hell trying to catch my YT when the lights were on. So I tried catching it at night as soon as the light went off. It swam right into the net like it didn't know what happend. Don't tear down the tank. Try this first and see what happens. If you know the rock it sleeps behind you can also try that to when the lights are off.

Jeez, working for a lfs I must've netted hundreds of fish by now so I've gotten so good at it that customers are always complimenting me on how easy, quick, and non-stressful I usually make it look
For hard to catch fish I use two nets and I've found it's easiest to not try to swoop a net over or towards the fish suddenly. Put the nets in as far away from each other as you can comfortably reach, hold one as rock still as possible, and with very slow movements just herd the fish in between them towards your stationary net. If it darts away don't move your "herding net" suddenly trying to catch it or get it back into position! Just let it go and try again. It's especially helpful if the fish tries to hide between two rocks because then you can block off one side of the rock with one net then get a hand or the other net slowly around the other side and twitch it towards him so his only choice is to swim into one net or the other trying to escape. Those tips should work nicely with one net and a container too. It's an art as much as a skill so be patient and gentle! :joy:

thanks for the ideas...the 2 net thing might work...he darts in and out of the LR anywhere he can so "blocking" him might be a chore...
I almost caught him today while I was feeding them...wasnt quick enough with my net..just grazed him...whoever said fish arent smart and dont remember much..I beg to differ

Do a quick search on the board for "fish trap". I think you use a 2 liter bottle and some food. I've heard nothing but success with it.
