How to get rid of copper (MERGED)??

Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help??? I used copper power to get rid of ick>>> It killed my anemone>>>But saved the fish.
Ive done quite a few water changes and my copper is near zero .025ppm
I tryed to put 2 anemones in but they arent doing well.
How can i remove all the copper????? Thanks in advance>>>Bob

Why do they sell that stuff then??? Its not good if it stays forever. I thought is was a temporary fix and would dissapate after many water changes?? So now i cant ever have anemomes?????

They do have some type of media that will filter out copper I think seachem has it but I never use this before so I dunno how efficent it will remove it. But I heard also some plants can probably asorb it out over time.

Trebor, welcome to the forums.
Please do not post the same question in multiple forums.
Your rock, substrate and silicone could all potentially be contaminated with copper. Massive water changes and carbon could remove it, but there is no certainty that it will not leech out at a later time and kill your inverts.

Poly Filter (That is the brand name). It will reduce the copper.
Highly doubt you will be free of it!

No problem, that's why I merged the threads here.
Sorry. Wish I could tell you better news, but as far as I know there is no way to remove the copper that is bound up in your rock and substrate.

the only way to be 100% free of it is change out your sand, rock, and reseal your tank (or get a new one) there will always be some trace copper leaching back out of the silicone rock and sand.

Because you can use it safely in a fish-only tank if you accept that the tank will have to stay that way, or you can use it in a hospital tank where you only ever keep new or sick fish for treatment. Honestly, you should have checked to see if the product was reef safe before adding it to your tank. Expensive lesson, but now you know.

copper should never be used in dt with inv. or anemones. always use it in qt. it will be along time before you will beable to have anemones again.i would use polyfilter and carbon . along with water changes. i made that same mistake a couple of years ago.i used copper in my dt.fore ich. i'm guessing it was about six months or longer before i had anemone live. so don't worry to much, i never changed out my lr but at that time, i don't think i had that much of it. never changed out my cc either and every thing was fine,it'll just take awhile.

yes this is accurate sorry.
just a thuoght copper precipitates at a ph of 3.0 thinking and scratching head

Carbon is not an effective method of removing copper, (only a specific type of carbon is effective at removing heavy metals. , carbon is best used on ceartain organic/chemical compounds.
Water Contaminants Not Removed by AC Filtration
Similar to other types of water treatment, AC filtration is effective for some contaminants and not effective for others. AC filtration does not remove microbes, sodium, nitrates, fluoride, and hardness. Lead and other heavy metals are removed only by a very specific type of AC filter. Unless the manufacturer states that its product will remove heavy metals, the consumer should assume that the AC filter is not effective in removing them. Refer to the other circulars in the Treatment Systems for Household Water Supplies series for information on systems that do remove the contaminants listed above.

I recently made the mistake of using a brass fitting for my tank. I got copper into my tank and did a number on my corals. I have read quite a lot about the subject, and it seems that the best products to use for removing copper are curirsorb by seachem, or pura complete carbon. Good luck.

at my lfs they hand a chemicall that got rid of all the copper my coral have bin in ther fo five months now and nothing
